Information for Families with Children at High Risk for Learning Difficulties

Early in her career, Dr. Chesnie Cooper worked as part of a research team at Mt. Sinai Hospital developing psychological/psychoeducational protocols and follow-through with premature babies. Although children were medically healthy, certain profiles emerged that often led to school related difficulties.

Some factors which may indicate your child could be at high risk for future learning difficulties:

  • difficult pregnancy
  • premature/low birth weight baby
  • forceps delivery
  • anoxia
  • jaundice
  • frequent early ear infections
  • myringotomy (intubation)

Dr. Chesnie Cooper has continued to work with high-risk children and their families with these developmental and educational challenges for over 30 years.
